The medal is a 6 pointed star with a circular centre, with a maximum width of 19mm and 25mm high from the bottom point of the star to the top of the eyelet. It has a ring suspender which passes through an eyelet formed above the uppermost point of the star.
Obverse
This six-pointed star has a circular centre with the GRI/VI monogram, surmounted by the Royal crown, and inscribed ‘The 1939-1945 Star’.
Reverse
The reverse of the medal is blank as with all World War II Campaign Medals.
Ribbon
The ribbon is 16mm wide, with three vertical stripes of Dark blue, Red and Light blue, The dark blue stripe represents the Navy and the Merchant Navy, the red stripe represents the Army and the Light blue stripe represents the Air Force.
