The Medal is 18mm in diameter. The straight clasp non-swivelling suspender is attached to the medal with a single-toe claw mount and a pin through the upper edge of the medal.
Obverse
On the obverse of this medal is the crowned effigy of King George VI facing left. Around the perimeter is the legend “GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR:OMN:REX ET INDIAE IMP:”.
Reverse
On the reverse is a triumphant lion trampling on a dragon symbolising the Axis powers. At the top, just to the right of centre are the years “1939” and “1945” in two lines.
Ribbon
The ribbon is 16mm wide. The ribbon is the red, white, and blue of the (British) Union Flag. There is a narrow central red stripe (1mm) with a narrow white stripe (1mm) on either side. There are broad red stripes (3.25mm) at either edge, the two intervening stripes (3.25mm) being blue.
