This is a British honour awarded to military personnel and civilians for acts of gallantry during flying operations, specifically when not in the presence of the enemy (not in action with the enemy or out of theatre for flying). Awarded from 1994, it recognizes risk to life that does not meet the criteria for higher gallantry awards.
The full size commendation has a width of 21mm and a height of 4.5mm (at widest point).
The miniature commendation has a width of 16mm and a height of 3.5mm (at widest point).
