Mercantile Marine War Medal – Miniature

The Medal is 18 mm in diameter, with a straight clasp non-swivelling suspender..

Obverse

The obverse of this medal is identical to that of the British War Medal and shows the uncrowned left-facing profile of King George V by Sir Bertram Mackennal, with the inscription GEORGIVS V BRITT : OMN: REX ET IND:IMP:

Reverse

The reverse of the medal shows a steamship ploughing through a stormy sea, with a sinking submarine and a sailing vessel in the background, the whole image is enclosed in a laurel wreath.  At the base of the medal has an inscription which states  “FOR WAR SERVICE MERCANTILE MARINE 1914-1918”.

Ribbon

The ribbon is 16mm wide, with a 7mm wide green band on the left, a 2mm wide white band in the centre and a 7mm wide red band at the right.

Packing
